OH based single-wrap Gleipnir binder
« on: March 07, 2014, 02:43:50 PM »
Trying to use other tightly nipping / constricting knots as Gleipnir bases, instead of the Clove hitch, I had used the overhand knot, in the arrangement shown in the attached pictures ( the ends at the left or at the right of the knot s nub are parts of the same rope - I show a one-wrap Gleipnir mechanism here ).
It seems to me as tight as the similar configuration based on an almost jamming Clove hitch, but I am not sure if it is really worth the trouble - as the Clove hitch is TIB, so easily tied in the middle of the binding line. Any member who is interested in Gleipnir binders is kindly requested to report his experience with these Clove-based and overhand-knot-based ones.

It is perhaps more difficult to dress the single overhand knot, as shown in the previous post, than the double overhand knot. The double overhand knot forms a self-dressing and longer nipping "tube", through which we can drive our returning eye legs, twist them around each other in order to increase the area of their mutual contact, and secure them by the constricting action of the two encircling rims. It is like we have merged/replaced the two overhand knots, at the ends of the adjustable binder shown in (1) and at the attached picture, into/with one, at its middle.
