A short one this time -
Here's a brief introduction to designing a Gaucho knot with the Advanced Grid Maker -

The gridmaker recommends using flash, or a different browser. The video clip does require flash.

Flash is a whole in the system that I won't install. And Adobe hasn't updated anything but the Windows version anyway.

Just so you know.

One reason I use YouTube for my videos (these are normally .wmv) - I don't have to worry about what codecs etc. viewers have on their systems because YouTube handles just about anything. Are you saying that you can't actually view the video?

By the way, I cannot find anything in the Advanced Grid Maker or its documentation that mentions flash.

When I watch clips on Youtube, it usually starts with a few seconds of a black background and a message that flash is required. But then it starts to load anyway. When I posted the previous message, the first messaged timed out only to be replaced by a new one.

A year or two ago, the majority of Youtubes clips, quite simply didn't work without flash. It is only the odd percent that still won't work.

I tried the clip again just now, and it worked. I have no idea as to why. Just glad that it does.

Regarding the gridmaker. I attach a screen dump.

Hmmm ... that's interesting, but I'm glad you got it to work though.

What is the screen dump of exactly? It's not actually anything to do with grid maker itself, I assume it's what you get when YouTube fails to play a video?

I reckon YouTube is still the best option for posting videos as the YouTube servers generally sort out whatever codec or video software is required. Even when I post videos on my web site, I always embed the code from YouTube to make sure viewers are using the YouTube software and not their own. Before I did this, people would get messages like "You don't have the correct version of Windows Media Player" (if I posted a .wmv file) or "You need to install the latest Flash Player" (if I posted a .swf or .flv file). You can't rely on viewers having the same packages as the ones you use, so leaving it to YouTube is my choice.

Anyway, as I say, I'm really glad it worked for you eventually!

The screen dump is from this link: http://www.screencast.com/t/GjIij2p5x

Originally, I thought that was the grid maker. But I have noticed its content is a video clip of 50,8 MB. So I searched for, and found the advanced grid maker. I did assume it to be an .exe for windows, or as I said, some flash application. But very pleased to find an agnostic web application.

My browser is not one of the recommended, but it is a close spin off of Firefox. I got tired of how FF yanked the rug around the feet of its users. Pale Moon is a stabler variant.

I'm still likely to start up my CAD program for fancy knots. It kind of thinks the way I do. Or is it the other way around ...

So, all ends well. Many thanks!

Hi!

I'm glad we've had this exchange, because it IS screencast that's using flash. At least I've now put all the videos on YouTube.

Ironically, though, I've found more people were clicking on the original screencast link, and the bandwidth was getting ever closer to its limit. I have just purchased an upgrade so that the bandwidth is now 10x what it was.

To be safe, I'll put all future videos on both screencast and YouTube. I think, assuming folks can see a video on it (i.e. flash), screencast is better quality.

I'll be out today, so I'll try to get around to it tomorrow.

Thanks for this - I now know that screencast uses flash, and I will warn people to use the YouTube links instead if they have problems.
