herringbone lanyard  knot tutorial
A nice nice alternative to the diamond knot (on right) is the slightly larger herringbone lanyard knot.

Put temporary seizing on cord and form two loops.

Bring each end around its neighbor and up through its own bight.

Bring left hand cord down and through the bottom bight - going to the right of the parallel cord.

Turn the knot over and do the same with remaining cord.

Bring either end over two strands and under a crossing pair of strands.

Repeat with other end.

After tightening it makes a nice herringbone pattern.
