The lanyard knot, on the left makes an attractive loop. The gaucho knot
on the right is similar but bulkier. It is trickier to tie but worth the effort.

Here is a link to the tutorial I wrote for this knot. It is completely different from the method you linked to but the results are similar.

Thank you. Many kind people have shared their knot tying knowledge with me. I am paying it forward.

I really like the Cow Hitch Square Lashing, although my first choice of materials to try it with was poor, so I had a poor initial result - I think the cordage has to be substantially less diameter than the rods, and not too springy to be able to wrangle the knot. I will seek out some better materials and have another go.
I must observe though that the photos are strangely huge and fuzzy - I had to zoom down to 50% to make them viewable, then I couldn't read the text. And I note with some small regret - though this is not asemery's fault - that Instructables has, like so many before it and so many no doubt to come, gone more corporate and you have to sign in now to download the pdf; with of course the oh-so-convenient sign in with Facebook/Twitter/Google, so that the data gathering needn't be even momentarily interrupted ... but I'll get off my soapbox now.
At least it was something I could view without being herded into the ubiquitous and loathsome youtube to have my digital pockets picked.

my fave
(this 5Lx4B 2-pass 2-strand)
and the steps to tie
a snug and aesthetic knot
single-strand is as well,
it must have some golden ratio in it
i think the knot in knotme's https://bbs.zhongguojie.org/thread-6945-1-1.html link is the same knot, tied 'upside down' 🙃
