Hello
skyout:
I just wanted to introduce myself today. I have enjoyed this forum on and off for quite a while now (lurking as a guest) and decided to join today. I work with a retired boson mate who has graciously showed me enough about knots that I know I have a lot to learn, just as you guys have without knowing it. So, also, I wanted to say thanks to everyone here. This seems like a great place to learn and share ideas.
I did a quick search and couldn't find anything on rope ladders, so I thought I'd show a use I came up with that allowed the good ole' rope ladder (found in The Marlinspike Sailor by Hervey Garrett Smith) to come back to a useful life and make the little woman happy at the same time. Unfortunately, I didn't get to reap the rewards I thought I'd get as I broke one of her lighthouse plates (notice the clock) while hanging them on homemade hooks made from coat hangers. :-[

Hello Skyout,
Please accept my apologies for missing your first post and for not welcoming you to the forum. My only excuse is that the topic was a decorative, and as you know, I am not very hot on decoratives (I sort of thought one of the decorative brigade would handle the welcome).
So, with my last post to the forum (I have to leave for personal reasons) let me welcome you, and although you now have 107 posts under your belt in just a matter of a few months, it is a genuine welcome, and I am sure you will get as much enjoyment from this group as I have had.
Your last post in the 'What is the Point in Joining the Guild' topic says it all and sadly still mirrors all that I have been saying to the same deaf ears. Why indeed do the officers not post on the forum, or at least have the Webmistress report its important content back to them and have her post here on their behalf.
However, times are changing and at the next elections there is a serious opportunity to vote on members who do use the forum and who do show an interest in the views of others.
KHWW is a special place, if only as an example to the IGKT as to how it SHOULD be done and how it CAN be done without officers or subs.
So come on IGKT listen to folks like Skyout here, the IGKT has funding and Officers - these should help the Guild to be able to offer so much more, making this the 'Must be' place for knotting.
Thank you for sticking in here Skyout - keep on telling 'them' what you need and want - for once I think there are a group heading for the Council who actually want to listen.
Happy Knotting

If you ever decide to come to see Micky Mouse in Orlando, FL, USA, it would be an honor to buy you a beer and just chat!

Hello Rick,
I am glad you became a member to this establishment. You and I have had some limited personal communications over the brief period that we both have been here. I for one am glad to say you are a knotting buddy.
I will offer an apology for all the rest of the people who have not got to know you, though that may be a bit righteous of me.
Anyway,
I am glad you contribute here, the stuff being not necessarily mainstream (and that's a good thing), but certainly interesting. I believe you share with me, and others, the core belief that knowledge has value and should be shared.
What source it comes from, who cares, just be thankful it came, and perhaps even say so.
Heck, that's why we are here, right?
I sincerely hope that more people will come forth and do the "welcome committee routine" and see just how valuable friendships can be.
Lurking is... just lurking.
Things don't just change,,,,, We change them.
Welcome Rick. ;-)

Thanks Scott. I think back of all the friends I've had in my life and am saddened when I don't even know when I've talked to some of them last. You can never have too many, and now I remember I have a high school reunion this year in Waycross, Ga. I am overwhelmed by the sincere helpfulness of all whom have answered questions for myself and others; and others who just shared knotting info on their own here. This is truly a great site with great members and I'm proud and humbled to be a part of it!!
Rick
