Chest beckets / books

Hey Vince,

Here's a thought I had from looking around the site today. Why not shoot the Guild's Librarian an email for a little assistance? They may have just the thing you're looking for!

From the Publications link on the home page I found the IGKT Library (the email address is there as well) where they said:

The Guild's Librarian will also undertake reasonable reference searches on request. Comments on the Library and enquiries can be made to the Guild's Librarian.

The best chest beckets I have seen in recent years are those made by Karl Bareuther from Germany.
He brought a display of his chest becket construction method, showing each stage in the making to the 2K2 meeting in Fareham.  I will be seeing Karl at the October meeting in Cuxhaven so I will try and take some photographs of it - if he brings it.

Hello all....

I am right in the middle of making a pair of chest beckets. I took pictures along the way which can be seen in one of my picasea albums.  One of you stated to think of a becket as abeing a belrope with eyes to each ends, I like to think of a chest becket being more like a bow fender bended into the shape of a handle..but that's my personal opinion.

Thank you all for the kind words about my chest beckets. Aknotter asked how mucg time went into tying. Well I didn't keep track of that actually but a rough estimation is about 10-15 hours for one becket and 2 -4 for the boltrope so far.

Perhaps you might contact Brian and have him do this as a tutorial at KHWW when you've completed the project?  This is a seriously valuable teaching resource!

I will be at that meeting too. I sure do hope Karl will be there along with his beautiful beckets. I certainly will take a couple of pics (again)
