Lashing & House Building
« on: June 26, 2005, 01:05:17 AM »
We have all tried our hand at lashing a couple of poles together. Well, if not poles, then like me, a couple of pencils!  ;D

Here, http://www.culture.gouv.fr/culture/arcnat/chalain/en/mais_cons5.htm , is a picture of a lashing used as a building technique in ~ 3,000 b.c.  Looks like a "Crossed Lashing" (ABOK #2115) with a frapping turn to me.

I wish I could see or learn how this lashing was started and finished.  After all, at times, starting and finishing a lashing is such a hot topic.

Cheers - Brian.

Ps. http://www.culture.gouv.fr/culture/arcnat/ leads to great sites.
http://www.chalain.culture.gouv.fr/culture/arcnat/chalain/en/index2.html starts the site with "The House" and "Binding the beams".
