Knotting Terms in Daily Language...
« on: January 26, 2010, 09:47:30 AM »
What knotting terms can you think of that are used in daily language? Here are some starters:

Marriage - Getting Hitched; Tying the Knot
Drunkenness - Getting Looped; Going on a bender; three sheets to the wind
No Problem - It went off without a hitch
Last effort - He's at the end of the rope
Death - He worked hard all his life...right up to the bitter end
Busy - I'm tied up right now, but I'll get back to you soon
Lack of Authority - My hands are tied, there is nothing I can do
Anger - He's all bent out of shape
Nervousness - My stomach is all tied up in knots

Lets see how many we can come up with, then pick the top ten...

You are right, it has been done before...not much participation though, and some comments were way too serious...Instead of trying to compile a list for the sake of a list, the point is to show how much knotting has influenced the cultures around the world...Let's go gang...Game On!!!

Those are some good ones, but I think you are just stringing me along. I know there are some real funny ones that would keep us all in stitches...

Success - This is my crowning achievement
Driving - Weaving in and out of traffic
Legal - Binding agreement
Opportunity - Seize the moment
Trickery - He thought he could rope me into doing his work for him
Maritime - Belay that order
Familiarity - Getting to know the ropes

Come on gang...there has to be thousands of these!!!

Trouble - We'll give him enough rope to hang himself
Mail - Drop me a line sometime
