How to Tie the (Honey) Rope Basket by TIAT (Video Instructions)

The Honey Basket is the product of months of research
and effort. In short it's a basket made from one 30 foot
strip of 3/16 inch solid braid nylon rope.



The basket is sturdy, relatively easy to tie, and holds
materials right side up or upside down. A video showing

The Honey Basket is the fusion of several (relatively) simple tying techniques.

• Slip Knots:
• Simple Simon Bends (mod);
• Cow Hitches; and
• Overhand Knots.

Made with one continuous strip of rope, the basket is useful as a means of holding
materials for survival, or other everyday purposes.

Still the basket's piece de resistance is the fact it can be undone allowing access
to a single strip of rope. This rope can be used for emergency purposes, and then
later retied into a basket, once one is again needed.

Question: With the horizontal strands getting longer and therefor the holes in between the stands getting bigger, have you found a way to add extra vertical loops mid basket?

If you want less distance between the "Star Fish" ribs, create more ribs.
5 is an adequate number of ribs for the basket I showed in the video, but
you could easily make more (just add more slip knots at the beginning).

Adding ribs "mid-basket" is possible. Just add slip knots between the ribs.
But I'm afraid you'll loose the clean look of the basket by doing so.

As for this tie being in my upcoming book... Regretfully, I finalized the
basket's design 4 days ago. On account I already submitted my completed
manuscript to my publisher (in early February). This tie won't be in my first
knot book. The tie will definitely be in my next book (already laying out the
knots/ties for the second book).

As for signing my books... I can't sign all of them (most will be in stores and
sent out from online sellers). But I can sign yours (smile). We'll work it out
once the books are available.

I believe I mentioned in the Slatt's thread that I can't leave well enough alone. I am already tying it in my head using at least 100ft of paracord. Don't get me wrong I like pretty but I am really impressed by function. Especially if it has more than one use!.

I'm now getting visions of a (Honey) Rope Basket as a small knapsack with Slatt's rescue as the shoulder straps!

I'm hopeless! 

Let us know when the book comes in! I can squeeze one more on my shelf.

Yeah, looks good either way really. Did you name it the honey basket cause of the resemblance to a beehive, or because of the resemblance to the straw basket that holds Baerenjaeger bottles?

That, and the top (when cinched up) looks like a honeycomb. So I thought,
beehive, honeycomb...Ahh...I'll call it the Honey Basket. (smile)

p.s. The fact the basket can be unraveled to reveal the single strip of rope that
was used to create it, was inspired by the engineering of Slatt's Rescue Belt.
Although, as the video shows, the ties are very different.

p.p.s. It's (now) the basket I use to hold the rocks I collect to sling. Although
after the video was completed, I headed out to have breakfast with my folks. No
slinging that (satur)day.
