Liverpool Guild of Rope Makers
« on: March 04, 2010, 12:00:36 PM »
I have had an email from someone researching their family history - an extract follows:

"I wonder if you could tell me if there was a Ropemakers Guild in the 1850/80 era that would have covered the area of Toxteth Park. I am researching my family tree and the [deleted] were ropemakers on consecutive censuses, actually living in Ropers Walk, Toxteth, where, at the time there were 2 rope making factories very close together.
I would be most grateful for any help that you can give me."

I know nothing about Liverpool Guilds in the 19th century (even though I live only 10 miles from Liverpool). Does anyone have any knowledge which might help? Toxteth is a part of central Liverpool for those unfamiliar with the city.

Barry,

Did you or your enquirer find the answer?
