Yes, exactly. In the AGH, a loop part is coming down over the coils instead of the working end. After looking at it for a while, you'll eventually see how the coils themselves are reversed in each of the two hitches.

I just tied an Adjustable Grip Hitch as if the pole was part of the standing end.  I didn't end up with a Mason Hitch.  I ended up with a hitch that doesn't grip as well as the Mason Hitch.  By the way, the Adjustable Grip Hitch is one of my favorite hitches that I practice often.

Right: You aren't supposed to end up with a Mason Hitch when you're tying an Adjustable Grip Hitch. [insert puzzled smiley face here]
