Thank you DDK, and welcome to this forum.

xarax, thanks very much for your welcome!

... That is, a knot that is, essentially, identical to Zeppelin bend, but lacks the full symmetries of the Zeppelin bend, is not as good a bend as the Zeppilin, just because of this.

I looked at this bend as being much more similar to the Smith/Hunter's Bend than the Zepplin Bend.  It varies from a Smith/Hunter's Bend only in the non-interlocking of loops while maintaining the same symmetry.  I can see how one could view the bend in question as a variant of a Zepplin Bend.  I would agree that from this perspective, the change in symmetry has dramatic consequences.

Might it be true that any change in interlocking overhand bends will not be subtle?

Nooo ! :) On the contrary, I am afraid... :) Bends are delicate litle things, and the simpler the bend, the more delicate it becomes.

??? I must not have worded my statement very well.  The meaning I wanted to suggest is that small changes in the structure of any interlocking overhand bend would likely lead to obvious changes in the properties of that bend.

Thus, I would tend to agree that they are delicate and that they are delicate in large part for the reason you give.  :)
