Horse dealers hitch
« on: November 27, 2010, 04:32:45 AM »
Hi
In the book "The directory of knots" by John Shaw there is a "Horse dealer's hitch". It must have another name because there's next to no references to it on google. Can someone please tell me what it might be. Thanks...

1. Pass the end of the halter rope through the ring, at the same time twisting an overhand loop into the standing part.
2. Bring the end of the rope back and take it clockwise around the initial loop
3. Then tuck a bight beneath the standing part of the rope and up through the original loop from back to front.
4. Tighten the knot

There are no references to it, because it's a *new* knot published only in
the hard & of-small-circulation periodical Knotting Matters --the IGKT's
newsletter/journal of sorts.  I'll guess that this knot was published sometime
around two decades ago?  --at least, this is my surmise.

"John Shaw"'s book contained a lot of off-beat knotting found in the IGKT
circles, and it's curious that some pseudonym was used by G. Budworth.
You might have seen in the book the unusual Fig.8 eyeknot which I found
in some rockclimber's line way back when.
