Chi-Fi Knot
« on: July 11, 2011, 04:31:29 AM »
Am I the only one who has noticed the excessive cropping of the pictures of the Chi-Fi Knot on page 137 of Geofffrey Budworth's The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Knots & Ropework?  The photos make it look like the hitch is center-loaded when it is actually supposed to be end-loaded.  The ends are cropped off.  Apparently Budworth used the Ultimate Encyclopedia as a source when he wrote The Book of Knots with Jason Dalton.  Page 245 of that book has the Slide-and-grip hitch (center-loaded) that looks like the Chi-Fi photos.  The hitch shown can be center loaded, but then it will not function the way the Chi-Fi was designed.

Some of the apparent collaborations books --i.e., two authors--
are in fact not so collaborative as one might think : one author
begins, then for some reason another author is tasked to complete.

Rumor is that Jason Dalton went incommunicado before finishing
his book and so Geoffrey became the finisher.  Years later, with
a publisher unwilling to await his recovery of health, G. had one
of his books finished by fellow IGKTer Hopkins.

Actual collaboration would've/should've been more interesting.
