Attached image is an example in support of the proposition that one perspective
of [a] 'Bowline' will usually facilitate easier observation of the nipping component.

It follows that, IF the nipping component is the key to understanding all Bowlines,
THEN, it is logical to show the side which emphasizes it.

I believe that this is the concept which underpins Dan Lehman's proposition.
