I wish I knew.

Dan is one of the most erudite of personae when it comes to the construction and usage of a knot/bend/hitch for the world's edification and education.  There are no knots that he has not (knot?) an opinon upon that are what they will be even yet more appropriate to, even: almost.

Maybe.

Dan, your erudition and conceptualization  of the humble tied-knot leaves me breathless.

(  G  A  S  P !  )

That's better.

   Just in case there are any knot tiers around "echoing knot books assertions" , that have not seen those "accidentaly" taken pictures, I reproduce them here, so they "open their eyes and scour their surroundings and report WHAT IS DONE":) (1)("See" the attached pictures)

   To return to the originak topic I still do not see any easy, clear cut way to include the Inuit (??) bowlines in the bowline family of end-of-the-line fixed loops, and leave all the remainng crossing-knot based bowlines (2) out...

1) http://igkt.net/sm/index.php?topic=3555.msg20788#msg20788
2) http://igkt.net/sm/index.php?topic=3467.0

P.S. I have to admitt that I have read only one knot book, the ABoK, quite recently, and only once...If I "echo" something, it must be from another dimension !  :) However, my mind s eyes are not completelly shut, I believe. I dare to have an opinion on knots, my humble 2 pence opinion , and publish it... and - fortunately for me but unfortunately, perhaps, for others -  I can still breath:) :)

This is not a knot.

The Eskimo bowline you presented has been presented previously and long ago; discovery of it

   Whoa ! Dan Lehman feels the need to state that he has "discovered" a knot "long before"(sic) me:) (*)

Only in your reading did I say such a thing;
rather, in the plain, quoted words, I said that it had been
... (by whomever (fwiw, not me)); "discovered" doesn't appear.

Hit RESET & re-read, please!

   Ok, ok, I might have read into this : "Whoa" of yours something there was just not there...I am sure that, in your carefully phrased replies, there are more things that I should have responded to and I have not, than the exact opposite !  :)

P.S. It is not "the Eskimo bowline" that I had presented ! It is one of the two very different  forms, of one of the many crossing-knot based bowlines, we call Eskimo bowline. My reply was meant to point this difference, not to present another picture of "the"(?) Eskimo bowline !  And my surprize had to do with the fact that the particular form of the "accidentally taken" picture of the "wild" knot you have presented, was exactly similar with the form of the "accidentally taken" picture of the knot I have "accidentally" tied and posted in the bowline thread. Of course, you have twisted the meaning of my reply, and presented my "surprize" of the coincidence of those two images, as somewhat ridiculous, have nt you ?   :)
