Questions for the author of An Interactive System for Knot Design
« on: September 05, 2011, 10:42:36 PM »
So, I decided to reach out to Puripant Ruchikachorn, the author of An Interactive System for Knot Design (http://sites.google.com/site/puripant/research/knot-design), thinking of Knot News articles.  8)

He's a friendly guy and indicated that he'd be happy to talk to people who actually tie knots.  I was thinking to collect questions to ask him in a semi organized way, although you are certainly free to contact him independently if you like.

Hello Carol and thank you for being curious and ambitious enough to reach out to him. I too have limitedly had contact with him (Oct 2010) via email and the impression I got then was that he wasn't going any further with it for the time being. His remark was that it was very "buggy" and had plans to rewrite it. Offered his idea to anyone who could use it.

So hopefully your contact rekindles his flame. I was duly impressed with the program, then and now.

Did he indicate a current interest in continuing to refine his program? Or releasing it?

The knot program was his Masters project he's doing something else for his Ph.D.

One of the questions I'm planning to ask.

"I want to release the program to public too but it is still very buggy. I have planned to rewrite and release it soon but I cannot make a promise. Actually, anyone can implement their own applications based on my idea."

This is a partial quote of one of our email conversations. One could take this to mean either he would share his work as a working program or use it as is to further refine.
I may be reading too much into it though.
It is way above my pay-grade nonetheless.

I wish you much success! Keep us informed please.
