I wanted to create a topic similar to "knots in the wild" but focused on knots igkt members use around the house. to start off, here are some pics I took after cleaning out my shed...
I should have taken a before pic also. the second bike was leaning on the patio chairs, which were always sliding down to the ground and moving it or bumping anything would cause the tools to fall. pulling a bike out was a daily annoyance.
I hung the tools from the cross beams of the shelf. buntline hitches at the top, icicle hitches at the bottom. I used a constrictor for the broom at the back cause it was hard to reach, though I'll probably regret it next time I have to sweep. I found that the chairs don't fall if they're tied in pairs. constrictors didn't hold so I used the slingstone-ish knot there.
now the interesting bit. the string holding up the bike is tied to the cross beam with a buntline. there are two or three round turns around the bike's frame, then a bowline to a carabiner. another string is bowlined to the other side of the biner, and tied to the first string with an adjustable grip hitch. I can move the bike in or out by sliding the hitch and opening the carabiner.
now the bikes are easy to get to, and nothing falls when bumped. life is better.
what would you have done differently? also, which knots do you use around the house?
