Anyone has a tutorial for this knot?

Hello Everybody,

I'm looking for a tutorial for this knot?
Don't know the correct name for it, guess it's sinnet
made by crowns, or kind of stop knots?

Maybe there's someone who can help me to find
out how to tie it?

Hi Barry,

many thanks for the link. The technique is very similar (if not even the same)
like what I'm looking for.
I found some other link which was posted by "SlipJig" in another
topic. (post your works p.6)

I found the photos on the other link a bit confusing, but after a couple of
hours and many attempts I figured it out.

Just another question, is this topic here for kids only? When I entered the first time
I just saw "tutorials" , bit didn't realize that it's for children.
Or can everybopdy use this page to ask for help?
If not where is the best place to do so?

Although many tutorials discussed here may be about relatively simple (though often ingenious) knotting it is by no means aimed at children particularly, although they may benefit (and I would hope that we encourage children to try knotting). Many tutorials however are aimed at the beginner or inexperienced knotter (in decorative work at least) and may therefore give the impression of being for kids. The example which you originally asked about is quite a complex technique but a children's site like the one about Boondoggle can be helpful as a basic insight to learn about the technique. So please use this board any time to seek and give advice - we're all children at heart or we wouldn't be playing with string!!

many thanks for your advise, and you're absolutely right , we're all children at heart.

But honestly, sometiems my brain is a bit "knotty", because I think this technique is really simple in compare to other knots, for example the knot in ABOK no. 2218 which I've used to create my door knocker (shown in one of my posts of " posts your works"
This kind of knots are much more complex in my opinion.
I was also only able to tie this knot by copy the diagram out of the book and follow it.
But to come back to my "knotty brain", sometimes knots are looking so complex,
but it's so easy to tie them. It's really nice, I love it.

Just to get/understand the "secret" how it was made takes sometimes more time than to tie it.

But once again, many thanks for your advise.

Yes it is a sennit - a type of crown sennit. There are numerous examples in ABoK starting at #2917 but the spiral effect is not (I don't think) shown. The example at the start of this thread uses this technique but is a rectangular layout forced into a spiral by the way the strands are laid across at each pass. No so much difficult as time consuming and uses a lot of cord.

  Your boondoggle link is almost right.  In order to get the double row of lighter color in the braid you need two cords of that color in the set-up.  Total of five cords.

I will point out one thing with asemery's post above. To get the twist in what I have known as 'the staircase sennit, the black working end at the top of the knot (in the picture shown in a beaker) needs to to the left of the lower black W/E and the lower black W/E goes to the right of the top one. This puts the twist in the sennit.
If you just bring the w/e back and fro then you produce the sennit without the twist

Thank you oldpete I was just about to add that information. 
The cord in the lower left goes up to A and the cord in the uppper right comes down parallel to it to B.  Then do the over under weaves with the east-west cords.


By the way here is the finished product.  It will serve as a luggage ID/zipper pull.  Thank you Capt. Hellenthal for starting the thread.
