I've been saying for a while that the guild needs to get involved in Maker Faires.
London is about to be the 3rd major World Faire. It will run for 4 weeks, apparently.
You
must go see it, if you're in the area. It's not all high tech. Makers of all types and ages will be there. At Vancouver, we had 3d printers and laser cutters right down to artisan farmers growing the raw materials for painting and weaving. If you were a flint knapper, you would draw a crowd. My booth last year was next to the quilting guild and the knitters club. The pure creative energy at these things is incredible and exhilarating.
The guild
should have a presence. Being in London right in the heart of the guild population, there should be no difficulty fielding enough people to run a booth. If you want to get the attention of the young and new, remind the former scouts and sailors what fun knots are, there's no better place. People who have paid a fee, and waived all assurances of safety because they want to make things with their hands.
