What SPAN means in ABOK #1049?

Hi there!  :) :) :)

Does anybody know what "span" is used for in slinging and rigging?  ???

Google is your friend! I searched for SPAN RIGGING and found this picture which explains it very well (look for the green lines in the picture):

So the span is apparently a temporary line used in port for attaching blocks and tackles which you need to handle the cargo in port. The span loop is therefore the loop you make on the span line for attaching the blocks and tackles to it.

I got it.  i searched "span" only in russian Yandex so i couldn't find anything.
