bowline in middle of line, but not bowline on a bight
« on: February 03, 2021, 12:36:59 AM »
does this knot have any particular name? I'm trying to find a reference for it but keep coming across "bowline on a bight" which this most definitely is not (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowline_on_a_bight). I would describe it as a cowboy bowline with a bight. I've often used in in a trucker's hitch; I insert a bit of dowel in the second loop formed by the tail (bight) and use it as a grip to haul the line tight and provide slack to simultaneously tighten the hitch.

Good day goadeff and welcome.

I looks like a Bowline tied WITH a bight.

Confer Ashley's #1016 (which IMO comes from
this but lost out to bad illustration) & #1074
(Agent_Smith can correct if my #s are off ...).
