Roband hitch error?
« on: May 23, 2021, 06:13:33 PM »
While learning to make the version of the Roband hitch shown below, (Abok #1274), I noticed that Ashley's "finished" image does not match his tying diagram.

I haven't found anyone else commenting on this rare error by Ashley, hence this post.

Hello 'TS" and thanks for posting.

I noted this comment:

In fact, there are many errors in 'ABoK' (authored by Clifford Ashley)!
Dan Lehman has compiled a huge list of errata for this book.
Here's one link: https://igkt.net/sm/index.php?topic=183.0
Dan might know of other sources to find errata?

With regard to #1274, its not surprising that there is an error.
Please consider that the book was published during WW2 (1944) and all done without the aid of a modern computer and software.
That fact alone would be unthinkable by today's standards.

Out of curiosity, have a look at this link for another illustration of #1274:

agent_smith makes a good point, and the link he provides to A. Hyatt Verrill's book underscores it, because the two drawings that Verrill provides for the Roband ALSO don't match! (see the pics)

I note that Verrill even mis-names the Carrick bend as "Garrick", (although he DOES tie it correctly).

Thanks for the feedback!
