skull mat 💀
« on: July 07, 2022, 12:07:49 AM »
it took a few pages of etchings to work it out,
but here it is,
the skull mat  💀
a 3mm doubled line makes a coaster or mini mat.
it holds its shape when left alone,
but can scrunch easily if, say, washing it,
so thanks to PatD's share of using a soldering iron,
the mat is easily stabilised with a few dabs of the iron!

another thing i noticed is that it's cord made in australia,
with yarns likely from japan, and when melted it doesn't smell as badly or as much as the chinese polyester.

i've made a shirt patch,
just glued it on after buying all that fabric glue!
with a zipper tab (single-line version),
it definitely needed the melt welds so that it's not pulled out of shape

skulls aplenty

4mm line, doubled

tripled,

and single (hollowed) with 2mm contour lines,
something that didn't work well before,
until the soldering iron 'hot tip' share from PatDucey!

(i say 'hollowed', because 'gutted' sounds terrible)

i have some in other colours,
but skulls only look good in white, cream, light blue, lilac, light grey, light colours.

the tying chart is on the tute board,
but here it is anyway! 💀

... i appreciate it, Sweeney !

wooooo

p.s that's a great idea,
halloween is not a big deal in australia,
so it didn't occur to me as a theme,
but anyway i just tied a triple line skull, that's the about size of a mask ready to go - !

Hi Alana,

Where abouts do you 'melt' it?
At any particular crossings?

Cheers
Greg

hi Greg,

definitely on the each of the two ends
and then the x shapes, under and above the 'nose' space.

that was the original plan,
but then it was so easy to also tack any and other convex 'outer track' points.
so i just about weld them all
especially for, say, a triple line mat,
as you probably noticed, the eye and nose spaces are so gappy there's more movement than a usual mat
but tie, and see what you think

Great work.

It would look good in reflective or glow in the dark cord.
