Does the above friction loop have a name?  I like the basic/single version more and more (admittedly on supple cords).

Other than using it in a whoopie, this may be a neat alternative to Eskimo Bowstring (#1019) or recently-mentioned variant of Honda knot when locked with a half hitch.

The hope is that the loop should mostly hold by friction thus not putting too much tension on the locking half hitch and jamming it, instead, the HH is there as a backup in case the tail wants to slip.

Regardless of how it maybe called, this seems to be a pretty nifty loop: it toggles well enough by itself as an adjustable friction loop, which can be locked by a half-hitch or half-hitch with an extra wrap a'la #291, which jams less readily than the standard Eskimo bowstring (#1019/1020/1021).
