Knot Chat&Chinese Knotting
« on: February 11, 2007, 05:49:58 PM »
Hi all

My husband and l joined the guild last weekend.
We're trying to join in with the Knot Chat but with no success.
How can l get a password? When do you chat? It seems that noone is online whenever we try!

I am particularly interested in Chinese Knotting and have a copy of Lydia Chen's book.
Anyone running any courses in the UK or know of anyone that could broaden my knowledge?

Anyway, thanks for your help in advance.

Welcome Pixi.

If the chatbox asks for a password the name you try to use is already taken by someone, best is to try with an other name.
It is one of a whole set of chatboxes and the names are for the whole, so common names are often taken.

We are always online Sundays, which time of the day depends on where you live.
If in America on the west coast, try the morning hours, till early afternoon.
When on the continent between the coasts you will have to do your own reconing.
If on the east coast, from noon unwards for about 5 hours.
If you live in England, from 5 in the afternoon till about 10 PM.
Continental Europe, from 1800 till 2300.

If you live in Australia you are less lucky, than it would be the early hours of the Monday morning.
If that is the case, and you would like to chat, tell us what time would be right for you, and we find someone in the world who is also awake at that time.

Besides the Sunday chat we are running a trial Thursday Chat, it runs shorter hours, say the later half of the hours mentioned above.
And we know also about a chat on the Saturday, the earlier hours of the times mentioned above, it has a different address: http://www.knotical-arts.com/knot_chat.html

If you want to chat and nobody is in the chatroom, post a message here or in any thread here that seems right, and if someone is online they are likely to come in and meet you there.

I hope this is help enough, if not, please ask on, we are happy to help.

In the UK, Edna Gibson gives classes.  Here's a web page with contact info (hopefully current, but I can't verify) http://www.japan21.org.uk/teachers/visits/experts/gibson.html

Also in the UK is Europa Chang, although I am not certain if she gives classes.  Certainly she is active in the guild and if you can get to her local meeting you can at least chat.  Here's a blurb on what branch she frequents (although I don't know if that is current either, knowing that she moved fairly recently) http://www.igkt.net/branches/index.html
