classical guitar converted to resonator 🎸🔊
« on: January 09, 2025, 11:10:18 PM »
happy New Year :)

i did up an old cheapie 1/2 size classical guitar, converting it into a resonator guitar,
and included backhand hitches (#1797) for the strings
and for a short time the chinese crown loop (#808) and barrel knots;
usually, a figure-eight timber hitch (#1668) is used to tie strings to the bridge.

i had never restrung a classical guitar before so it was all news to me!
haven't had anything to do with resonator guitars before either so i had to read up a lot on it all. it involves a ring or drum that the cone sits on, which involves timber and dust and complexity which i was averse to - so i've experimented with a corflute drum with mini-plank,
and the video of the saga is here!:
for a short version, the gist of it is in the first 3 and last 3 minutes of the documentary!

took a couple of hours a day for 4 weeks
whew!
apple iphone mic somehow enhances sound?, and that's usually good, but for the sound experimenting, it covered up the poor sounds in experimenting which isn't accurate for the demo,
and distance from mic also a factor in comparisons, which i wasnt mindful of at the time, ah well
