Images recovery
« on: May 14, 2023, 06:18:44 AM »
Many images attached to past threads are not accessible anymore.  Is there a way of recovering them?  I think past discussions, especially those illustrated, are the Crown Jewels of the IGKT and it would be a shame if they vanish.

Good day mcjtom.

Unfortunately the Forum has degraded over time and the images may be lost. Unless someone wants to search some internet archive to see if they are still out there.
The Guild has determined to implement a new forum in the near future, date to be announced.
Apologies to all those who search and do not find what they are looking for. Perhaps someone has the images and they can be requested to share them.

May be lost or have been lost?  Have there been attempts to 'find' them in e.g. server backups or consulting Simple Machines?  It looks like there is quite a few that are not accessible anymore, new forum software or not, but perhaps your fatalism is premature?

Not quite fatalism on my part, reality.
Software is corrupt, images inaccessible so recovery is a challenge the powers that be don't want to peruse or can't. Hence the new software decision.
I, personally have looked and tried, but it is beyond my access to salvage the things you are requesting.
It is unfortunate, but there we are.

Possible way to recover things: "The Wayback Machine" https://web.archive.org/ can be relied on to find things long thought forgotten/lost/corrupted in presnt software.

Takes a slight 'learning curve' but worth every bit of it.

G'Luck!
