nikwax vs grangers 🌊 down wash question
« on: December 08, 2023, 11:46:32 PM »
i've only ever used nikwax to wash my down jacket and sleeping bags. time for a new bottle of something.

anyone have a preference? i guess I'm happy with the nikwax as i haven't got anything to compare it to,
thought i might ask here first ☺

(also i read that baby shampoo can do the job. would that work?)

thanks

only the top quarter of my sleeping bag needs cleaning,
i once taped it off and only washed the top quarter, just so i wouldn't have to dry and deal with the whole lot,
i think it worked fine

p.s i can't remember what i bought and used last time,
there's nikwax down wash direct, is that the one i'd use?
because there's technical wash and i dunno what that is,

and in the grangers range, the one simply called 'down wash'  just makes the choice easier.

i couldn't delete this (my) post ..!
i went with nikwax due to proximity and price.

also there is confusion with the term 'capful' on the bottle, whether it means the inner cap with the thread on it, or, the outer cap that lines up with the bottle itself,
i'll have to double check!

a climber and camper i am not,
but being amongst professional outdoor practical types here,
i know I'm asking in the right place 😊🌳☁️

Good day Alana.

While I am not familiar with those products, I am familiar with cleaning my outdoor gear. Depending on the soiling I use a mild soap (Dr. Bronner's  Castile Peppermint - my favorite) and / or white vinegar. With down filled apparel, I think the most important thing is to maintain its fluff and for that a thorough drying in the dryer and some sunshine.
Online shopping < you can find most anything.
